Read this part before you click. Red is sent to a rural Japanese village to help his grandparents for a week. His grandfather Hiroshi is half deaf and half blind and hands him the field work. His grandmother Yuko is shy, unsatisfied, and the target of everything Red does next. The game is about him exploiting her inexperience and the old man's obliviousness, pushing further each day. Family, an unwilling participant and a cheating frame are all on the critical path with no route around them.
What Oldboy does competently is atmosphere. The village feels lived in, the heat and the dirt come through, and the fetish focus on smell and sweat is unusually specific for the genre rather than the usual generic polish. The build is under 9 MB so it starts instantly on a phone.
Our take
The craft is real and the content is deliberately ugly, which is the whole point for the audience it is made for. If that is not you, almost anything else in our 3D section will suit you better. Version 0.6.0 is also mid development and stops inside the week, so the story has no ending yet. Free in the browser above.
